August 13, 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of four Domino’s Pizza outlets after inspections found several food safety and hygiene violations. Three of the affected outlets are located in Mumbai, while the fourth is in Malkapur, Satara district. The outlets are operated by Jubilant FoodWorks.
The FDA identified concerns related to food storage, temperature monitoring, pest control, sanitation, food testing and hygiene practices. At the Vile Parle West outlet, inspectors flagged issues involving potable water, storage conditions, pest control and temperature monitoring of frozen food. The Borivali West outlet was also found to have deficiencies in food storage, hygiene, temperature control and segregation of raw and cooked food.
The R-City Mall outlet in Ghatkopar West reportedly faced concerns involving sanitation, cleaning schedules and pest control. Meanwhile, the Malkapur outlet recorded a compliance score of 47%, with deficiencies related to infrastructure, equipment, cleanliness and pest management.
The action against Domino’s is part of a wider food-safety inspection drive across Maharashtra. Authorities inspected several major restaurant chains, including KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King and Starbucks. The inspections resulted in improvement notices and licence suspensions across different establishments.
The development highlights an important issue for India’s growing quick-service restaurant sector. A well-known brand does not automatically guarantee that every individual outlet is maintaining the required food-safety standards. Proper storage temperatures, clean equipment, pest control, food segregation and employee hygiene all need to be maintained consistently.
For consumers, the action does not mean that all Domino’s outlets are unsafe. The FDA’s findings relate to the specific outlets inspected. However, the crackdown demonstrates the importance of regular regulatory inspections in ensuring that restaurant chains maintain food safety at the outlet level.
