India stands at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation, with the government preparing to unveil homegrown sovereign AI models at the landmark India AI Impact Summit 2026, hosted from February 16-20 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Sovereign AI Models Ready for Launch

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently reviewed teams developing a comprehensive stack of indigenous AI models, confirming they’re in excellent shape for public debut at the summit.
These models prioritize India’s unique needs—multilingual capabilities, local datasets, and sector-specific applications in healthcare, agriculture, and governance—reducing reliance on foreign tech while ensuring data sovereignty.
Over 200 focused AI solutions from leading IT firms will also launch, showcasing India’s rapid evolution from AI consumer to creator on the global stage.

World’s Largest AI Summit in Global South

Billed as the biggest AI summit yet, the event draws 15 heads of state, 100+ global CEOs, and representatives from 100 countries, with $70 billion in AI infrastructure investments already committed—expected to double by summit end.
Organized under the IndiaAI Mission, it advances technology democratization, bridging the AI divide through open-source models, compute infrastructure, and skilling programs tailored for developing economies.

Seven Pillars Driving India’s AI Dominance

Themes span Human Capital development, social inclusion via AI, safe/trusted systems, resilience, innovation efficiency, resource democratization, and economic/social good—aligning global standards with Global South realities.
MeitY Secretary S Krishnan emphasized equitable benefits reaching every citizen, from AI-powered governance to sustainable applications, positioning India as a collaborative leader in responsible AI deployment.

Transformative Impact on Economy and Society

The summit builds on IndiaAI Mission successes: massive compute clusters, indigenous datasets, startup acceleration, and workforce transition programs fueling GDP growth and job creation.
By fostering public-private-global partnerships, India cements its role as an AI powerhouse, exporting ethical frameworks and solutions that empower billions worldwide.
