Nisshin, Japan | September 22, 2026
India and Sri Lanka face each other in the women’s cricket gold-medal match at the Asian Games 2026, with India looking to defend its title and add the country’s first gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The final is being played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading India and Chamari Athapaththu captaining Sri Lanka. The match is a repeat of the 2023 Asian Games final, when India won gold.
India Enter Final After Dominant Run
India reached the final after defeating Japan by eight wickets in the quarter-final before beating Bangladesh by 114 runs in the semi-final.
Shafali Verma was the standout performer against Bangladesh, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls as India posted 195/4. Bangladesh were then bowled out for 81.
India’s batting options also include Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh, giving the defending champions considerable depth heading into the title clash.
Sri Lanka Seek a Different Result
Sri Lanka reached the final after defeating Pakistan in their semi-final.
The team will again rely heavily on captain Chamari Athapaththu, who has been a key contributor during Sri Lanka’s campaign.
The final also comes shortly after India defeated Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup final, adding another layer to the latest meeting between the two sides. India won that match by 72 runs.
Gold Medal at Stake
For India, the match represents an opportunity to retain the Asian Games women’s cricket title and secure the contingent’s first gold medal of the 2026 Games.
For Sri Lanka, victory would provide their first women’s cricket gold at the Asian Games.
With both teams already through their respective knockout matches, the final brings together two familiar opponents in another high-profile continental title clash.
