India added another rowing medal to its Asian Games campaign as Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won bronze in the men’s double sculls at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday.
The Indian pair completed the final at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course in 6:13.25, finishing behind China and Uzbekistan.
India Finishes Third in Double Sculls
Satnam and Salman remained among the leading crews for much of the race and entered the closing stages in medal contention. They eventually finished third as China’s Yi Xudi and Yide Nie claimed gold in 6:09.77, while Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov won silver in 6:10.49.
The result marked a significant moment for Indian rowing, giving the country its first Asian Games medal in the men’s double sculls.
Second Asian Games Medal for Satnam
The bronze is Satnam Singh’s second Asian Games medal. He previously won bronze as part of India’s men’s quadruple sculls team at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
For Salman Khan, the result represents his first Asian Games medal and adds to his recent progress on the international rowing circuit.
Balraj Panwar Misses Podium
Earlier, Balraj Panwar finished fourth in the men’s single sculls final, clocking 6:54.80.
Panwar remained in second position through the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m checkpoints but lost ground during the final 500m. China’s Zhiwei Deng won gold, Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev took silver and Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama secured bronze.
