Kamaljeet-Suruchi Claim Shooting Gold
Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh produced a score of 484.6 in the 10m air pistol mixed team final to secure the gold medal.
The Indian pair finished ahead of South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who scored 478.0. Iran took bronze with 415.8. India’s winning score also set a new Asian record, according to reports.
The result came after both shooters had missed out on the individual finals earlier in the Games. They had topped the mixed-team qualification with 587-29x before carrying their form into the medal round.
India Take Silver in 50m Rifle 3P
India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar finished second in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
The Indian trio scored 1762-94x, narrowly behind China’s 1766-95x. South Korea claimed bronze with 1751-87x.
Aishwary and Niraj also qualified for the individual final after finishing third and fourth respectively in qualification. Rudrankksh finished ninth and missed the individual final, with only two shooters from each country allowed to advance.
Shooting Gives India a Double Medal Boost
The two results gave India a gold and silver from the shooting range on Friday, strengthening the country’s medal campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
The performances also provided a strong response after India’s shooters had missed out on medals in several individual and team events earlier in the competition.
