Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa.
Patekar was found unconscious and taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at about 5:20 am, according to hospital officials. His son, Malhar Patekar, also confirmed the death.
Final Hours in Goa
According to reports, Patekar had informed a friend during the early hours that he was feeling unwell and experiencing discomfort. He was later found unconscious at his residence and taken to hospital.
Doctors said the immediate cause was cardiac arrest, while a post-mortem examination has been ordered as part of the medical and legal procedure.
A Distinguished Film Career
Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar built a career spanning Hindi and Marathi cinema, theatre and filmmaking.
He became known for his intense performances and distinctive dialogue delivery, with notable films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar: The Final Attack, Ab Tak Chhappan and Natsamrat. His comic portrayal of Uday Shetty in the Welcome franchise also introduced him to a younger generation of audiences.
National Awards and Recognition
Patekar received three National Film Awards and several other honours during his career. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema and the arts.
He also directed Prahaar: The Final Attack, adding filmmaking to his work as an actor.
