Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released the “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military” on March 10, 2026, at South Block, New Delhi, outlining a transformative blueprint prepared by Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff to modernize India’s armed forces by the 2047 independence centenary.
Multi-Domain Integration and Jointness Priority
The strategy emphasizes building an agile, multi-domain force operating seamlessly across land, sea, air, cyber, and space, with enhanced jointness among Army, Navy, and Air Force in planning, operations, and capabilities to address evolving geopolitical threats. It promotes a “whole-of-nation” approach integrating military, diplomatic, technological, and economic strengths for Viksit Bharat ambitions.
Tech Innovation and Atmanirbhar Bharat Focus
Key pillars include AI, cybersecurity, space assets, autonomous systems, and modern training, alongside self-reliance via indigenous R&D, manufacturing, and tailored platforms to boost operational readiness and economic growth. A phased roadmap sets short-, mid-, and long-term goals for reforms and partnerships.
