India secured its first LPG cargo from Iran since 2019 after the US temporarily eased sanctions on Tehran’s oil exports, with tanker Aurora—originally China-bound—now heading to Mangalore port.
Strategic Diversification Move
The shipment will be divided among Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, paid in rupees via a trader. This addresses Hormuz disruptions affecting 90% of India’s Middle East LPG imports, where the nation ranks as the world’s second-largest buyer.
Bolstering Supply Security
Amid four tankers (Shivalik, Nanda Devi, Pine Gas, Jag Vasant) exiting Hormuz and others loading in the Gulf, India explores additional Iranian cargoes. This ensures uninterrupted household and industrial supplies despite global tensions.
