The death of Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has shocked political circles across Uttar Pradesh and triggered widespread speculation on social media. However, the postmortem report has now revealed that the 38-year-old died due to a massive pulmonary thromboembolism and not because of steroid use, as many online rumours had claimed.
According to the provisional autopsy report prepared at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), the official cause of death was “cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism.” Medical experts explained that the condition occurs when a large blood clot blocks arteries in the lungs, leading to sudden heart and respiratory failure.
India Today reported that Prateek Yadav had been undergoing treatment for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) for nearly five years. Doctors treating him reportedly confirmed that he had a long history of blood clot-related complications, including pulmonary embolism and recent cardiac issues.
Speculation regarding steroid use had intensified on social media because Prateek Yadav was widely known as a fitness enthusiast with a muscular physique and regular gym routine. However, medical findings reportedly found no evidence directly linking steroids or substance abuse to his death.
Reports also revealed that Prateek Yadav had recently undergone surgery on his left leg and had been facing difficulty walking along with severe swelling in the leg. Doctors say such conditions can increase the risk of blood clot formation, which may later travel to the lungs and become fatal.
According to reports, his health suddenly deteriorated late on May 12. He was later found unconscious at his Lucknow residence early Wednesday morning and was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
The postmortem report also mentioned that tissue and viscera samples have been preserved for further forensic and chemical analysis. Meanwhile, some reports claimed that six injury marks were found on the body, though authorities believe many of them could be old or collapse-related injuries.
Prateek Yadav was the husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav and the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Leaders from across political parties, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressed condolences following his sudden death.
