Cybersecurity and Intelligence Sharing Take Centre Stage
India and South Korea have signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening defence cooperation, cybersecurity coordination, and strategic information sharing. The agreement was finalised during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s official visit to Seoul, where he held high-level talks with South Korean Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back.
The new defence agreement focuses on tackling evolving cyber threats, protecting critical military infrastructure, and improving institutional mechanisms for defence information exchange. Officials described the pact as a significant step toward enhancing strategic coordination between the two Indo-Pacific partners.
Strategic Partnership Enters New Phase
The signing of the MoU reflects the rapidly growing strategic relationship between New Delhi and Seoul. Both countries have increasingly expanded cooperation in areas such as defence manufacturing, maritime security, advanced technology, and regional stability.
During the visit, Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of deeper military cooperation and stronger defence industrial partnerships to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The discussions also explored future collaboration in missile systems, defence technology, and joint industrial initiatives.
Analysts believe the agreement gains added importance amid rising cyber warfare risks and increasing geopolitical competition across Asia. By improving cybersecurity cooperation and intelligence-sharing frameworks, both nations aim to strengthen preparedness against emerging digital and strategic threats.
Rajnath Singh Pays Tribute in Seoul
Before the formal meetings, Rajnath Singh visited the Seoul National Cemetery and paid tribute to South Korean soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War. The gesture highlighted the historical goodwill between the two nations and India’s contribution to peacekeeping efforts during the conflict.
The Seoul visit forms part of Rajnath Singh’s broader two-nation diplomatic tour covering Vietnam and South Korea, focused on expanding India’s strategic footprint in the Indo-Pacific region. Experts say the latest agreement further reinforces India’s “Act East Policy” while aligning with South Korea’s Indo-Pacific strategic vision.
