Rajasthan Royals sealed the final IPL 2026 playoff spot with a dominant 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, knocking both Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders out of the tournament.
After a dramatic league phase filled with twists and changing qualification scenarios, Rajasthan Royals finally confirmed their playoff berth by reaching 16 points, moving beyond the reach of PBKS and KKR.
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals posted a strong total of 205/8. Despite early pressure, the Royals recovered brilliantly through important contributions from Dhruv Jurel and a late explosive cameo from Jofra Archer, who smashed 32 runs off just 15 balls.
Mumbai Indians struggled during the chase after Jofra Archer produced a sensational all-round performance. Archer dismissed Rohit Sharma for a duck in the opening over and later removed Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir to finish with outstanding figures of 3/17.
Although Suryakumar Yadav fought hard with a fluent half-century, Mumbai Indians eventually finished on 175/9, ending their disappointing IPL 2026 campaign in ninth position on the points table.
The result had immediate playoff consequences. Punjab Kings, who had already completed their league matches with 15 points, were officially eliminated once Rajasthan crossed the qualification mark. Kolkata Knight Riders also crashed out because even a victory in their final game would not have taken them beyond 15 points.
Rajasthan Royals now join Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
According to the playoff schedule, RCB and Gujarat Titans will face each other in Qualifier 1, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.
Jofra Archer was named Player of the Match for his match-winning all-round performance, with experts praising his impact under pressure during one of the season’s most crucial encounters.
The victory marked a remarkable turnaround for Rajasthan Royals, who had endured an inconsistent campaign but peaked at the right time to secure qualification on the final day of the league stage.
