New Delhi Accuses Islamabad of State-Sponsored Disinformation
India launched a sharp diplomatic attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing Islamabad of running a state-sponsored misinformation campaign through its “Fitna al Hindustan” narrative. The strong remarks were made by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, during a Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan.
‘Factory of Hate’ Remark Targets Pakistan Establishment
Parvathaneni criticized Pakistan’s decision to direct government agencies to refer to militant groups operating within its borders as “Fitna al Hindustan,” a term that suggests Indian involvement in their activities. India rejected the allegation, saying Islamabad has failed to provide evidence to support its claims. The Indian envoy described the narrative as “officially sponsored misinformation and disinformation dressed in religious terminology.”
In one of the strongest statements made at the UN in recent months, Parvathaneni called the campaign an “organised factory of hate,” alleging that it was designed to keep Pakistani citizens focused on hostility toward India while diverting attention from the country’s political and economic challenges.
India Raises Concerns Over Afghanistan
India also used the UN platform to criticize Pakistan’s military actions in Afghanistan. The Indian envoy accused Islamabad of causing civilian casualties through air strikes and warned against attempts to justify such actions as counter-terrorism operations. He stressed that attacks resulting in civilian deaths cannot be legitimized under the banner of security operations.
New Delhi urged all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and supported calls for accountability in incidents involving civilian casualties. India further highlighted its humanitarian and development assistance to Afghanistan, including aid in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and emergency relief.
Diplomatic Tensions Remain High
The latest exchange reflects the continuing diplomatic friction between India and Pakistan on issues related to terrorism, regional security, and cross-border militancy. India maintained that blaming neighboring countries for internal challenges would not help address the root causes of instability and reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism through international cooperation.
The confrontation at the UN underscores the deepening divide between the two nuclear-armed neighbors as geopolitical tensions in South Asia continue to command global attention.
