New Delhi: A viral leak suggesting that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) could cost more than $100 has sparked intense debate among gamers worldwide. However, industry insiders and reports indicate that the leaked figures are likely placeholders rather than confirmed retail prices.
The speculation began after Portuguese retailer FNAC Portugal reportedly listed multiple GTA 6 editions ahead of the official pre-order launch on June 25. The listings showed prices of €89.99, €119.99 and €199.99, leading some fans to believe that the standard edition could cost around $100.
However, well-known gaming insider billbil-kun and several industry observers have cautioned that these figures are not official prices from Rockstar Games or its parent company Take-Two Interactive. According to reports, retailers often use placeholder prices before publishers announce final pricing details.
The leak has nevertheless reignited discussions about rising video game prices. With major publishers increasingly moving toward an $80 standard for blockbuster titles, many gamers fear GTA 6 could become the first mainstream AAA game to break the $100 barrier.
Earlier this year, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick indicated that GTA 6 would likely follow prevailing AAA pricing trends rather than debuting at $100. He emphasized that pricing should reflect value for consumers and suggested that the industry’s standard range remains around $70-$80.
Industry analysts note that even if the standard edition launches below $100, premium, deluxe and collector’s editions could easily exceed that threshold due to additional content, collectibles and bonuses. The leaked FNAC listings appear to support the possibility of multiple editions being offered at different price points.
Rockstar Games has already confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders will begin on June 25, while the game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Official pricing is expected to be revealed when pre-orders go live.
For now, the viral “$100 GTA 6” claim remains unconfirmed. While the retailer listings have fueled speculation, gamers will have to wait for Rockstar’s official announcement to know exactly how much one of the most anticipated games in history will cost.
