Pune: The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has taken another turn after Sahil Goyal, brother of the prime accused Siya Goyal, told investigators that the family was never informed that she did not want to marry Ketan.
According to police sources, Sahil told investigators that if Siya had clearly expressed her unwillingness to go ahead with the marriage, the family would have called off the wedding. He reportedly said there was never any pressure on her to proceed with the alliance and rejected claims that the family knowingly ignored her wishes.
The statement comes amid the ongoing investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal, who allegedly died after being pushed into a gorge at Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra. Police have accused Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, of conspiring to murder Ketan after planning the crime over several months. Both accused are in judicial custody, and the allegations against them are yet to be tested in court.
Investigators questioned Sahil Goyal for several hours as part of their probe into the family’s knowledge of Siya’s relationship with Chetan and the circumstances leading to the engagement. According to police, Sahil maintained that the family believed Siya had willingly accepted the marriage proposal and had no indication that she wished to cancel it.
The police investigation has also uncovered evidence suggesting that Siya and Chetan were in a relationship before the engagement. Authorities allege the pair made multiple attempts to kill Ketan before the fatal incident at Lohagad Fort. Investigators are examining digital evidence, including phone records, deleted chats and internet search history, to establish whether the murder was premeditated.
In recent days, the case has seen several conflicting claims. While police allege the murder was part of a planned conspiracy, Siya’s legal counsel has argued that there is no direct eyewitness evidence linking her to the crime and has questioned the prosecution’s version of events. The investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are expected to complete forensic analysis of electronic devices and submit a detailed chargesheet after gathering all available evidence. The case has attracted nationwide attention because of the alleged planning involved and the high-profile backgrounds of those connected to it.
