New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the United States in December 2026 to participate in the G20 Summit, according to U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The visit is expected to provide another opportunity for high-level engagement between India and the United States as the two strategic partners continue to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Speaking about bilateral ties, Ambassador Gor said the United States would be delighted to host Prime Minister Modi once again. He also indicated that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has invited the Prime Minister to visit Washington in connection with the G20 Summit.
The ambassador highlighted the close personal rapport between Prime Minister Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump, describing their relationship as one that has attracted global attention. He expressed confidence that continued engagement between the two leaders would further strengthen cooperation on trade, defence, technology, energy and regional security.
The proposed visit follows the recent meeting between Modi and Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, where the two leaders discussed bilateral trade, strategic cooperation and regional developments. Officials from both countries have since continued discussions aimed at advancing a broader trade agreement and expanding collaboration in emerging technologies.
Ambassador Gor also suggested that President Trump is likely to visit India next year, although no official dates have been announced. He said both governments are working closely to schedule the visit at a mutually convenient time, underscoring the importance of sustained high-level diplomatic exchanges.
The 2026 G20 Summit will be hosted by the United States in Miami, Florida, bringing together leaders of the world’s largest economies to discuss global economic growth, trade, climate change, digital transformation and international security. India’s participation is expected to focus on issues such as sustainable development, Global South priorities, resilient supply chains and technological innovation.
Prime Minister Modi’s expected visit is likely to reinforce the growing India–U.S. strategic partnership and provide momentum to ongoing cooperation in areas including investment, defence manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and critical technologies.
