Kshatriya Parishad Objects to Film’s Historical References
Ajay Devgn’s upcoming action film Chauhaan has landed in controversy after the Kshatriya Parishad objected to its teaser, accusing the makers of misusing Rajput history and identity. The organisation alleged that the film’s promotional material attempts to appropriate the legacy of the Chauhan clan for contemporary political narratives and urged filmmakers to portray historical subjects with greater responsibility.
In a public statement, the Parishad said the Chauhan lineage is an important part of India’s historical heritage and should not be used to create political or communal narratives. It further maintained that historical memory must be respected and should not become a tool for ideological mobilisation.
Teaser Dialogue Draws Criticism
The controversy centres on a dialogue in the teaser that says, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa gaya hai.” The line has triggered criticism on social media, with several users claiming it could be interpreted as promoting communal divisions. The teaser had already generated debate over its depiction of the Kashmir conflict and references to pellet guns.
Actor Swara Bhasker also criticised the teaser, questioning its portrayal of pellet guns as causing “minimal damage.” Sharing reports highlighting the impact of pellet injuries in Kashmir, she argued that such depictions ignored the human rights concerns associated with their use. Swara also questioned the teaser’s historical references, stating that mainstream Kashmiris are not Pathaans and urging the makers to conduct better research.
Makers Yet to Respond
As of now, neither Ajay Devgn nor director Neeraj Yadav has issued an official response to the criticism. Despite the controversy, the film remains scheduled for a theatrical release on October 1, 2026, with the teaser continuing to attract widespread attention online.
The debate surrounding Chauhaan has once again highlighted the challenges filmmakers face when portraying historical themes and identities on screen. Whether the makers choose to clarify the teaser’s intent or make changes before release remains to be seen, but the discussion has already made the film one of Bollywood’s most talked-about upcoming releases.
