The United States carried out another round of airstrikes against Iranian military targets early Monday, marking the latest escalation in the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran. The strikes came shortly after US officials confirmed the death of another American service member, prompting a renewed military response against Iranian positions.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest operation targeted Iranian command centres, missile launch sites, drone infrastructure and other military facilities believed to be involved in attacks against US personnel and allied forces in the region. American officials said the objective was to reduce Iran’s ability to conduct future attacks while protecting US troops deployed across the Middle East.
The latest casualty reportedly occurred in Iraq during an operation involving an Iranian drone, adding to the growing number of American military deaths since the conflict intensified earlier this year. US authorities described the strikes as a direct response to continued attacks on American personnel, emphasising that Washington would continue to retaliate against threats targeting its forces.

Iranian officials claimed that several military sites and infrastructure facilities were hit during the overnight attacks and warned that further US action would invite additional retaliation.
The conflict has also intensified around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Iranian authorities warned that oil and gas transportation through the strategic waterway could remain disrupted as long as military operations continue. Reports of explosions involving oil tankers and attacks near the Gulf have heightened concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security.
The escalating hostilities have had immediate economic consequences. Global oil prices climbed above $90 per barrel as traders reacted to fears of prolonged instability in the Gulf region. Analysts warned that continued disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could significantly impact international energy markets and fuel inflation worldwide.
Despite the intensifying conflict, US officials have maintained that they remain open to diplomatic engagement if Iran chooses to de-escalate. Tehran, however, has insisted that military pressure will not force concessions and has continued to accuse Washington of undermining previous diplomatic understandings. Both sides have exchanged increasingly strong rhetoric as regional tensions continue to rise.
With military operations continuing for a ninth consecutive day, international observers have expressed growing concern that the confrontation could expand beyond the two countries and destabilise the wider Middle East. The renewed exchange of strikes, mounting casualties and threats to global energy supplies have intensified calls from the international community for restraint and an immediate return to diplomatic negotiations.
