A protest linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in central Delhi turned violent after clashes broke out between demonstrators and security personnel near Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar. According to Delhi Police, protesters allegedly attacked members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), pelted stones at police personnel, and damaged public property, prompting authorities to register multiple First Information Reports (FIRs).
The violence reportedly escalated when a section of the crowd broke through police barricades and confronted security forces deployed to manage the protest. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show an RAF jawan being chased and assaulted by members of the crowd. One injured officer alleged that the gathering became violent without warning, leading to physical assaults, stone-pelting, and attacks on officers attempting to restore order. Another officer reportedly suffered a fractured leg during the clashes.
Delhi Police said legal action has been initiated against those responsible for the violence. Reports indicate that multiple FIRs have been registered, covering allegations such as rioting, assault on public servants, obstruction of government duty, vandalism, and damage to public property. Authorities have indicated that additional cases could be filed as more evidence is reviewed and individuals involved are identified.
Following the unrest, security was significantly tightened across central Delhi. Additional police and paramilitary personnel were deployed at sensitive locations around Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and nearby areas to prevent further disturbances. Traffic movement was also affected for several hours as authorities worked to restore normalcy.
The protest is part of a broader agitation led by the CJP over issues related to education reforms and examination controversies. Demonstrations have continued in the national capital over recent days, drawing participation from students, activists, and opposition leaders. While many protests remained peaceful, authorities say certain gatherings turned violent, resulting in injuries to both protesters and police personnel.
