Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced comprehensive measures under “Empowering Divyangjan” during her Union Budget 2026 presentation, focusing on skill development and assistive technology access for persons with disabilities.

Divyangjan Skill Scheme

The Divyangjan Skill Scheme delivers industry-relevant, specialized training programs ensuring dignified livelihood opportunities for every disability group. It bridges employment gaps through customized vocational courses, accessible infrastructure, and direct industry placements, fostering economic independence and social inclusion.

Divyang Sahara Scheme

Supporting Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), the Divyang Sahara Scheme enhances assistive devices production with dedicated R&D investment and AI integration. This modernization improves affordability, quality, and customization of prosthetics, mobility aids, and rehabilitation equipment nationwide.

These twin initiatives complement broader skilling missions, promising enhanced workforce participation and nation-building contributions from India’s differently-abled talent pool.
