Germany’s EW Group plans to invest ₹200 crore over three years in India’s poultry sector via its new subsidiary Lohmann Layers India, established after acquiring JK Breeders Pvt Ltd. The move shifts from a 15-year franchise model to direct operations, targeting India’s fast-growing market as a global leader in animal genetics.
Expansion Plans
Lohmann Layers India aims for a breeding capacity of 400,000 layered parent birds to distribute 30 million day-old chicks annually, up from current 6-7% market share to 20%. Investments will fund incubation centers, modern infrastructure, and nationwide chick distribution.
Strategic Goals
Antonio Paraguassu, ILD’s MD for Asia-Australia, emphasized long-term commitment to Indian farmers amid booming demand. Led by MD Surendra K Jangir, the firm competes with Venky’s, Skylark, and Hyline in layer genetics.
