Maruti Suzuki India launched its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara SUV, on February 17, 2026, priced at an introductory Rs 10.99 lakh under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, slashing upfront costs by separating battery ownership. The battery rental charges Rs 3.99 per kilometer, with perks like a free home charger worth Rs 50,000, one year of free charging, an eight-year battery warranty, and three-year vehicle warranty (extendable to five).

Vehicle Specs

Built on a robust platform with 50% high-tensile steel, 120 lithium-ion cells, and extreme temperature resilience (-30°C to 60°C), the e-Vitara offers Level 2 ADAS features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring. Production started in August 2025, with 13,000 units exported to 28 countries last year via Suzuki-Toyota partnership.

Market Strategy

Bookings open at Rs 21,000 via NEXA showrooms, targeting India’s booming EV segment amid rivals like Tata and MG’s similar BaaS schemes. Shares rose over 1% to Rs 15,211 post-launch, reflecting investor optimism in Maruti’s EV push.
