OpenAI has partnered with Tata Group’s TCS HyperVault unit to develop AI-optimized data center infrastructure in India, starting with 100MW capacity and scaling to 1GW as part of its Stargate global initiative. Announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the deal supports local model hosting, low-latency access, and compliance for sensitive sectors.
Partnership Scope and Enterprise Rollout
TCS will deploy ChatGPT Enterprise across Tata’s workforce, marking one of the largest AI adoptions globally, while leveraging OpenAI tools for software development. The collaboration includes AI certifications for Indian professionals, with Tata as the first non-US partner outside America. OpenAI plans new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year to deepen enterprise ties.
India’s AI Infrastructure Boom
With over 100 million weekly ChatGPT users in India, the partnership addresses data residency and security needs for regulated industries. Tata’s ₹180 billion HyperVault initiative, backed by TPG, positions it to host hyperscalers amid surging demand for GPU clusters. This move cements India’s role in global AI, alongside Google’s $15B hub announcement.
