Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic landing at Northeast India’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, Assam. The event highlighted enhanced national security and disaster response in the region.

Event Highlights

PM Modi arrived aboard an IAF C-130J aircraft from Chabua airfield, greeted by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and other officials with traditional Assamese honors like the ‘Japi’ headgear and Muga gamosa.

The Rs 100-crore, 4.2-km reinforced highway stretch supports fighter jets and transport aircraft during emergencies, marking a key infrastructure milestone completed in 2025.​

IAF Aerial Display

The Indian Air Force staged a 20-minute show featuring Sukhoi-30 MKI and Rafale jets performing precision take-offs, flypasts, and landings, with An-32 helicopters doing touch-and-go maneuvers.

Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) demonstrated heli-borne commando drops, relief operations, and medical evacuations, involving around 16 aircraft to showcase operational readiness.​

Strategic Importance

PM Modi called the ELF a matter of national pride, boosting Northeast security, border infrastructure, and rapid disaster response amid the region’s strategic priorities.​​

Air Chief Marshal A P Singh presented a memento to the PM, who waved to crowds before dedicating projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore in Guwahati.​
