President Donald Trump asserted that Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei orchestrated two assassination attempts against him in 2024, stating “I got him before he got me” after US-Israel strikes killed Khamenei.
The 2024 Plots
The first occurred at a July Pennsylvania rally where a gunman grazed Trump’s ear; the second in September at his Florida golf course, with Afghan-US national Farhad Shakeri allegedly tasked by Iran’s IRGC. Trump referenced these on ABC and Truth Social, calling Khamenei “history’s most evil” and hailing the strikes as Iran’s “greatest opportunity” for regime change.
Strike Backdrop
The February 28 operation targeted Tehran’s military and nuclear sites, killing Khamenei and commanders amid stalled nuclear talks. Iran retaliated with missile barrages on US bases and Gulf allies, escalating the crisis.
