New Delhi, February 1, 2026 – In a major policy push for traditional health systems, three new Ayurveda institutes are set to be established under the Union Budget 2026–27, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in indigenous medical education and research. The announcement was part of a series of healthcare and education initiatives unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament today.
Expansion of Ayurveda Education Nationwide
The new institutes are expected to widen access to Ayurveda teaching, clinical practice and research across key regions, aligning with the government’s vision of integrating traditional systems into mainstream healthcare delivery. This move is also intended to address the long-standing demand for more institutional infrastructure in Ayurveda, which currently operates through a limited number of dedicated centres. Experts say that strengthening academic frameworks will enhance quality and promote clinical application of age-old Ayurvedic practices.
