Mumbai’s legendary Parle-G factory in Vile Parle East, birthplace of India’s most beloved biscuit since 1929, receives environmental clearance for redevelopment into a sprawling commercial complex. The Maharashtra State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) approved demolition of 21 aging structures on the 13.45-acre site on January 7, 2026, paving the way for a ₹3,961 crore project.

Project Vision

Spanning 5.44 hectares, the transformation features four buildings (six floors each with two basements), delivering 1.90 lakh sq m built-up area including retail outlets, restaurants, food courts, and office spaces. Production ceased in 2016 after 87 years, ending the signature aroma that wafted through neighborhoods, but Parle Products plans to retain legacy elements amid Mumbai’s shift from industrial to service hubs.

Environmental Commitments

Of 508 on-site trees, 311 stay intact, 129 face removal, and 68 will transplant; a Miyawaki forest adds 1,203 saplings, boosting total greenery to 2,230 post-construction. This urban renewal mirrors global trends, converting mills and factories into high-value real estate while honoring nostalgia for generations raised on Parle-G.

Mumbai’s Evolving Skyline

Parle-G’s redevelopment underscores the city’s land optimization, blending commerce with sustainability on prime Vile Parle turf—whether Parle occupies the new space or leases it remains unclear. The move signals progress without erasing a cultural icon’s footprint.
