Fernandes Creates History at Old Trafford
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes equalled the Premier League record for most assists in a single season as United secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
Fernandes registered his 20th assist of the league campaign by setting up Bryan Mbeumo’s goal in the second half, matching the long-standing record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. The Portuguese playmaker now has the opportunity to break the record in Manchester United’s final league match of the season.
Manchester United Seal Third Place
United finished their final home game of the season on a high note, confirming a third-place finish in the Premier League standings and securing a return to UEFA Champions League football next season.
Luke Shaw opened the scoring early with his first league goal in more than three years before Forest equalised through Morato. Matheus Cunha restored United’s advantage shortly after, while Mbeumo’s composed finish from Fernandes’ cross ultimately proved decisive despite a late response from Morgan Gibbs-White.
Emotional Farewell for Casemiro
The match also marked an emotional farewell for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who made his final home appearance for Manchester United after four seasons at the club.
Fans at Old Trafford gave the veteran midfielder a standing ovation when he was substituted late in the second half. Interim manager Michael Carrick praised both the team’s performance and the atmosphere inside the stadium following the victory.
European Qualification Race Intensifies
Elsewhere in the Premier League, clubs chasing European qualification suffered setbacks. Brighton lost 1-0 to Leeds United, while Everton fell 3-1 at home to Sunderland. Brentford and Crystal Palace played out a 2-2 draw, keeping the race for Conference League qualification wide open heading into the final round of fixtures.
Sunderland’s comeback victory kept their European hopes alive in their first season back in the top flight, while West Ham slipped closer to relegation after a defeat to Newcastle United.
