Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed security forces and civil administration to maintain the highest level of vigilance and ensure seamless coordination for the safe and smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting at Baltal in Ganderbal district, where preparations for the annual pilgrimage were assessed.
Reviewing the overall arrangements, the Lieutenant Governor instructed all stakeholder departments to ensure that pilgrims receive a safe, comfortable and well-organised experience throughout the Yatra. He emphasized that every devotee should be able to undertake the spiritual journey without inconvenience, with all essential services functioning efficiently.
The meeting focused on security deployment, sanitation, emergency evacuation plans, weather forecasting, healthcare facilities, drinking water, electricity supply, transportation, parking, langars, road maintenance, disaster management preparedness, registration facilities and the availability of essential commodities. LG Sinha directed officials to ensure that every aspect of the pilgrimage is fully prepared before the Yatra begins.
To improve pilgrim convenience, the Lieutenant Governor instructed authorities to increase the number of on-the-spot registration counters, enabling faster registration and reducing waiting time. He also called for better coordination among the police, security agencies, district administration and shrine board officials to respond quickly to any emergency.
Security has been significantly strengthened ahead of the pilgrimage, with heightened surveillance and multi-layered deployment across the Yatra routes. Authorities are also focusing on intelligence gathering, crowd management and traffic regulation to ensure an incident-free pilgrimage. Sensitive transit points, including areas leading into Jammu and Kashmir, have been placed under enhanced security cover.
Earlier this month, LG Sinha had directed all departments to adopt a “whole-of-government” approach to ensure timely completion of infrastructure works, improved healthcare services, sanitation, telecommunications, disaster preparedness and pilgrim amenities. The administration expects a higher number of devotees this year compared with previous editions of the pilgrimage.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28. Officials have reiterated that ensuring the safety, security and spiritual experience of pilgrims remains the administration’s highest priority.
