An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was injured after miscreants allegedly pelted stones at police personnel near Tolstoy Marg in central Delhi, triggering fresh clashes between protesters and security forces. The incident occurred amid continuing demonstrations in the Connaught Place–Jantar Mantar area, prompting authorities to step up security and launch an investigation into the violence.
According to Delhi Police, ACP Vivek Bhagat sustained injuries after being struck during the stone-pelting. He was immediately shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, where he received medical treatment. Officials said his condition is stable, while several other police personnel also suffered minor injuries during the confrontation.
Police officials said the violence erupted when a section of protesters allegedly began throwing stones and bottles at security personnel despite repeated appeals to maintain peace. In response, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Delhi Police used limited force, including tear gas shells, to disperse the crowd and restore order in the area.
The clashes occurred close to Tolstoy Marg and Jantar Mantar, where demonstrations have continued over the past several days. Authorities have increased the deployment of police personnel, installed additional barricades, and intensified surveillance at key intersections in central Delhi to prevent further violence.
Following the incident, Delhi Police registered multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against unidentified individuals. The cases include charges related to assaulting public servants, obstructing government duty, rioting, and damaging public property. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage and viral social media videos to identify those involved in the violence.
Senior police officers later visited the injured personnel at RML Hospital and reviewed the security arrangements in the area. Officials reiterated that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible for attacking law enforcement officers or disrupting public order.
The latest violence has prompted Delhi Police to enhance security across sensitive locations in the national capital. Additional personnel have been deployed around Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and nearby government establishments to ensure that further protests remain peaceful and do not escalate into law-and-order situations.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel, avoid spreading unverified information on social media, and maintain peace as investigations continue. Police said efforts are underway to identify all individuals involved in the stone-pelting, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the evidence collected.
