An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner operating flight AI 2030 from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday morning following a reported bomb threat. The aircraft landed safely, and security agencies initiated precautionary checks.
According to NDTV, the threat was subsequently described by officials as a hoax. Passengers and crew were reported safe and were allowed to disembark after security clearance.
Aircraft Landed Safely at Jaipur Airport
The aircraft was diverted to Jaipur, around 280 kilometres from Delhi, after the security alert triggered an emergency response. Airport personnel approached the plane cautiously before allowing passengers to leave.
The aircraft was moved to an isolation area for security checks. Police and airport security teams examined the situation to establish whether any threat remained.
Security Alert and Aviation Investigation
Initial reports indicated that the aircraft briefly transmitted transponder code 7500, an internationally recognised aviation signal for unlawful interference, including a possible hijacking. This prompted a heightened response from air traffic control and security agencies.
However, subsequent reporting suggested the signal may have been transmitted by mistake. The precise circumstances surrounding the alert remained under investigation, and the reported bomb threat and the transponder signal should not be assumed to have the same cause.
Air India Offers Assistance to Passengers
Air India said affected passengers were being offered complimentary rescheduling options or a full refund if they chose to cancel their travel plans.
The incident led to a coordinated security response at Jaipur International Airport. Authorities continued their checks while investigators worked to clarify the origin of the alert and the circumstances that led to the diversion.
Investigation Continues
The safe landing and evacuation of passengers brought the immediate flight emergency under control. The incident has also highlighted the importance of aviation security protocols, which require precautionary action whenever a potential threat is reported.
Further findings from the investigation are expected to clarify how the alert originated and whether the transponder signal was activated accidentally.
