Delhi Capitals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a thrilling three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Chasing a massive target of 211, Delhi displayed remarkable composure under pressure to complete one of their most memorable wins of the season.

Punjab Kings made an aggressive start after being asked to bat first. Opener Priyansh Arya played a blistering knock of 56, while skipper Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with an unbeaten 59. Cooper Connolly also made a valuable contribution in the middle order as Punjab piled up a formidable 210 for 5 in 20 overs.
Delhi’s bowling attack struggled to contain the flow of runs during the powerplay and middle overs, with Punjab dominating the innings through consistent attacking strokeplay.
Axar Patel and David Miller Lead Fightback
Delhi Capitals suffered an early collapse during the chase and were reduced to 33 for 3, putting the side under immense pressure. However, captain Axar Patel responded with a fearless counter-attacking innings of 56 that revived Delhi’s hopes.
Experienced South African batter David Miller provided strong support with a crucial half-century, stabilising the innings and keeping the required run rate under control. Their partnership shifted the momentum firmly in Delhi’s favour and brought the visitors back into the contest.
Lower Order Holds Nerve in Final Overs
The match went down to the final overs, but Delhi’s lower-order batters showed great composure in the tense finish. Young all-rounder Madhav Tiwari played a valuable supporting role, while Ashutosh Sharma ensured the chase was completed with a few balls to spare.
The successful chase of 211 also became the highest successful run chase recorded at the Dharamshala venue in IPL history.

The defeat marked Punjab Kings’ fourth consecutive loss in the tournament, hurting their hopes of securing a top finish in the IPL standings. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, gained crucial momentum in the race for the playoffs with the dramatic victory and kept their qualification hopes firmly alive.
