Parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms and dust storms, providing much-needed relief from recent heatwave conditions.
Dust Storm Thunderstorm Impact: Relief Amid Disruptions
The sudden weather shift brought gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, light to moderate rainfall, and lightning across Delhi, Noida, and surrounding areas like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Dark clouds and downdrafts from western disturbances triggered dust-laden storms before the downpour, temporarily dropping temperatures by 2-4°C but causing traffic chaos, flight delays, and uprooted trees.
IMD Forecast: More Showers and Storm Activity Ahead
India Meteorological Department predicts continued thunderstorm activity with light rain in Delhi-NCR over the next few days, influenced by cyclonic circulations and moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Residents should brace for intermittent disruptions while enjoying respite from extreme heat, with yellow alerts issued for gusty winds and hail in isolated pockets.
