Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory warning of traffic disruptions across the national capital as opposition parties prepare to march towards the Supreme Court over alleged irregularities in electoral-roll revisions. Traffic diversions have been in effect since 6 am, depending on the law-and-order situation. Commuters have been advised to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
Roads and Junctions Likely to Be Affected
The advisory covers around 30 locations across central and New Delhi, including Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Mandi House, Jhandewalan, Panchkuian, Minto Road, Lodhi Road Flyover and Connaught Place.
Traffic may also be affected around Jantar Mantar Road, Ashoka Road, Sansad Marg, Patel Chowk and the areas surrounding major government buildings. Police have asked motorists to follow diversion signs and directions from traffic personnel.
Six Delhi Metro Stations Restrict Entry and Exit
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has restricted entry and exit at six central Delhi stations from 6 am to 4 pm on October 12 for security reasons. Interchange facilities remain available at the affected stations.
The stations are:
- Patel Chowk
- Janpath
- Rajiv Chowk
- Mandi House
- Central Secretariat
- Barakhamba Road
Why Is the INDIA Bloc Protesting?
The planned march is linked to opposition allegations concerning the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have called for a halt to the exercise and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Election Commission maintains that voter-list revision is part of its responsibility to verify electoral rolls. The allegations remain contested.
Advice for Commuters
Police have advised the public to avoid non-essential travel through affected areas and check official traffic updates before setting out. For assistance, commuters can contact Delhi Traffic Police on 1095 or 011-25844444, or use its official traffic information channels.
