Gujarat Titans players and support staff had a narrow escape after the team bus reportedly caught fire following a short circuit just hours after their defeat in the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all players, coaching staff and team officials were safely evacuated from the vehicle.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the Gujarat Titans squad was travelling back to their hotel after the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Smoke reportedly began spreading inside the bus after a suspected electrical short circuit, prompting an immediate evacuation of everyone on board. Team members quickly exited the vehicle as a precautionary measure.
The incident added to what was already a disappointing night for the Shubman Gill-led side. Gujarat Titans had suffered a five-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final, ending their hopes of securing a second IPL title. RCB successfully chased down the target with Virat Kohli leading the charge, while Gujarat struggled to recover after losing early wickets.
Reports stated that the players and support staff remained stranded on the roadside for a considerable period after the evacuation. A replacement vehicle was later arranged to transport the team safely to their hotel. Despite the scare, officials confirmed that no player or staff member suffered any injuries during the incident.
The bus fire came at the end of an exhausting travel schedule for Gujarat Titans. The franchise had recently travelled from Dharamsala to Mullanpur for Qualifier 2 before returning to Ahmedabad for the final. Weather-related disruptions reportedly delayed their travel plans, leaving the team with limited recovery time ahead of the title clash.
The demanding schedule had already become a topic of discussion before the final. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar questioned the IPL 2026 playoff scheduling and suggested that Gujarat Titans may not have received adequate rest before the championship match. He argued that player welfare and recovery should be given greater importance during high-pressure tournaments.
Following the final defeat, Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki acknowledged that the team’s total of 155/8 was below par but credited Royal Challengers Bengaluru for their performance. He avoided using fatigue as an excuse and emphasized that RCB deserved recognition for their title-winning display.
Despite the loss and the frightening bus incident, Gujarat Titans can still look back on a strong IPL 2026 campaign. Under captain Shubman Gill, the team reached another IPL final after producing impressive performances throughout the season, including a dominant victory over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
The franchise has not yet released a detailed statement regarding the exact cause of the short circuit, but reports indicate that safety checks and inspections are expected to be conducted. The timely evacuation ensured that the situation did not escalate into a more serious accident.
While Gujarat Titans’ title hopes ended in disappointment, the safe escape of players and staff ensured that the night did not turn into a major tragedy. The incident has once again highlighted the importance of transportation safety and emergency preparedness during large-scale sporting events.
