Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) Kandla achieved a record cargo handling of 158.60 million tonnes (MnT) for FY 2025-26, exceeding its annual target two days early and setting the stage for the highest-ever throughput in port history. This milestone underscores India’s maritime infrastructure growth under Sagarmala initiatives.
Operational Excellence Driving Record
Liquid bulk dominated at 60%, followed by dry bulk (25%), containers (10%), and break bulk, fueled by stakeholder collaboration and procedural streamlining. Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh credited port users for the 6.7% YoY growth, positioning Kandla as India’s top cargo handler.
Strategic Capacity Expansion
Upcoming ₹30,000 crore mega shipbuilding and ₹27,000 crore Tuna Tekra terminal will add 135 MnT capacity, supporting Viksit Bharat 2047. The port’s 170 MnT FY26 target reflects sustained momentum amid global trade shifts.
Economic Multiplier Effect
Kandla’s performance boosts western Gujarat’s logistics hub status, generating employment and FDI while redistributing national cargo volumes efficiently.
