Oscar-winner Kate Winslet is confirmed for a major role in Warner Bros.’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, directed by and starring Andy Serkis as Gollum, alongside returning Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf)—production starts May 2026 in New Zealand for a 2027 release.

Prequel Explores Aragorn’s Gollum Chase

Set between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring, the film follows young ranger Aragorn hunting Gollum to shield the One Ring’s secret from Sauron; Winslet’s part—possibly Gilraen (Aragorn’s mother) or Gollum’s grandmother—marks her Middle-earth debut after passing on Éowyn years ago.

Serkis-Jackson Reunion Powers Epic

Peter Jackson produces with writers Philippa Boyens, Fran Walsh, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou; rumors swirl of back-to-back trilogy shoots, building on Avatar scale for Winslet post-Titanic legacy.
