Thiruvananthapuram: In a major boost to Kerala’s startup ecosystem, the state government has announced a dedicated allocation of ₹50 crore for GenZ startups in the 2026-27 State Budget. The initiative aims to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven enterprises led by young founders across the state.
Presenting the Budget, Chief Minister and Finance Minister V. D. Satheesan said the government is committed to creating an environment where young entrepreneurs can transform innovative ideas into successful businesses. The allocation is expected to provide financial support, mentorship opportunities and ecosystem development for startups founded by the younger generation.
The move comes at a time when Kerala is actively positioning itself as a leading innovation hub in India. Officials believe the dedicated fund will help GenZ entrepreneurs overcome early-stage challenges, accelerate product development and attract further investments.
Industry experts have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a forward-looking step that recognizes the growing role of young innovators in shaping the future economy. They noted that many breakthrough ideas in sectors such as artificial intelligence, fintech, health technology, sustainability and digital services are increasingly being driven by young entrepreneurs.
The government expects the initiative to generate employment opportunities, strengthen the startup ecosystem and encourage more students and young professionals to pursue entrepreneurship as a career path. The fund is also expected to complement the activities of Kerala’s existing startup support mechanisms and innovation programmes.
The ₹50 crore allocation forms part of the UDF government’s broader strategy to promote knowledge-based industries, innovation and entrepreneurship. Alongside initiatives such as the Kerala Knowledge Valley project and support for MSMEs, the GenZ Startup Fund reflects the state’s ambition to nurture future business leaders and create a globally competitive startup ecosystem.
With dedicated financial backing now in place, young entrepreneurs across Kerala are expected to gain greater opportunities to build scalable businesses and contribute to the state’s economic transformation.
