NCC has secured a SEK 300 million contract from the Swedish Transport Administration to upgrade the E4 expressway between Hörnefors and Stöcksjö south of Umeå, enhancing one of northern Sweden’s busiest routes.

Project Scope and Sustainability Focus

The works involve reinforcing the road foundation, applying a new asphalt layer, improving drainage, and upgrading base layers for extended service life. NCC will mill 100,000 tons of asphalt, recycling over 50,000 tons for paving nine secondary roads in Västerbotten, cutting climate impact through resource efficiency.

Grete Aspelund, Head of NCC Industry, stated: “We will reinforce a vital Umeå route using asphalt reuse and modern methods for a stable road lasting years.”

Timeline and Financial Details

Work starts summer 2026 and completes autumn 2027, booked in Q1 2026 under NCC Industry. The Nordic construction leader, with 2025 sales of SEK 56 billion and 11,500 employees, lists shares on Nasdaq Stockholm.
