New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt greetings to devotees undertaking the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, describing the pilgrimage as a sacred spiritual journey and urging pilgrims to observe five “Sankalps” (resolutions) to make the yatra safe, disciplined and environmentally responsible.
In his message, the Prime Minister said that visiting the holy Amarnath cave is a matter of great privilege and encouraged devotees to undertake the pilgrimage with devotion while contributing positively to society and nature. He also expressed gratitude to the security forces, civil administration, volunteers and local residents for ensuring the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
PM Modi’s Five Resolutions for Pilgrims
Prime Minister Modi urged every pilgrim to adopt the following five resolutions during the yatra:
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the pilgrimage route.
- Prioritise safety by following all official guidelines and advisories.
- Protect the environment by avoiding littering and preserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
- Support the local economy by purchasing goods and services from local vendors and communities.
- Serve the nation by carrying forward the spirit of unity, discipline and public service beyond the pilgrimage.
The Prime Minister said these five commitments would help ensure that the Amarnath Yatra remains not only a spiritual experience but also a model of responsible and sustainable pilgrimage.
The first batch of pilgrims was flagged off from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under elaborate security arrangements. Thousands of devotees have begun their journey to the holy cave shrine via the traditional Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Authorities have deployed a technology-driven security network, including surveillance systems and additional security personnel, to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
The Amarnath Yatra is one of India’s most revered annual pilgrimages, attracting lakhs of devotees from across the country who undertake the challenging trek to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. This year’s pilgrimage is being conducted under enhanced security and environmental protection measures to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all participants
