Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on August 8, where he will address more than 3,000 graduating students and inaugurate Param Pragya, an artificial intelligence-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at the institute’s Sonipat campus.
The Prime Minister will participate in the convocation as the Chief Guest at 11 AM. The event will mark an important academic milestone for IIT Delhi while also highlighting India’s growing focus on artificial intelligence, advanced computing and research-driven innovation.
More Than 3,000 Students to Receive Degrees
The 57th IIT Delhi convocation will see 3,036 students receive their degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The graduating group includes 587 PhD scholars.
The ceremony will also recognise students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to present some of IIT Delhi’s highest academic honours, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.
The graduating batch also includes the first students to complete programmes such as the Bachelor of Design, Executive MBA, MSc in Biological Sciences and MA in Culture, Society and Thought.
Param Pragya to Strengthen AI Research
A major highlight of the Prime Minister’s visit will be the inauguration of Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
The facility is expected to strengthen IIT Delhi’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research. It will provide researchers and students with advanced computational infrastructure for work involving complex scientific, engineering and technology-related problems.
The launch comes at a time when high-performance computing is becoming increasingly important for artificial intelligence research, scientific modelling, data-intensive applications and technological innovation.
IIT Delhi Expands Its Research and Innovation Focus
The inauguration of Param Pragya reflects the broader effort to strengthen India’s advanced research infrastructure. IIT Delhi has continued to expand its academic and research collaborations while increasing its focus on emerging technologies.
The institute has also highlighted new research initiatives and collaborations with universities and other educational institutions. These efforts are aimed at creating greater opportunities for students and researchers in areas ranging from artificial intelligence and engineering to biological sciences and interdisciplinary studies.
PM Modi to Address Graduating Students
During the convocation, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the graduating students and faculty members, with the event bringing together academic achievement and India’s technology ambitions.
The Prime Minister has previously emphasised the importance of research, innovation and advanced technology in India’s development. His participation at IIT Delhi’s convocation is therefore significant as the institution prepares to expand its role in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
The event will also provide an opportunity to recognise the achievements of students who are completing their academic journeys at one of India’s leading technology institutions.
AI and Advanced Computing Gain Importance
The launch of Param Pragya comes as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly central to research and industry. Advanced computing infrastructure is required for large-scale data processing, AI model development, scientific simulations and other computationally intensive applications.
For IIT Delhi, the new facility is expected to support researchers working across multiple disciplines and create additional opportunities for collaboration between technology, science and engineering programmes.
The development also aligns with India’s wider push to strengthen domestic capabilities in artificial intelligence, supercomputing and emerging technologies.
A Key Moment for IIT Delhi and India’s AI Ambitions
PM Modi’s visit to IIT Delhi combines two important developments: the academic recognition of thousands of graduating students and the expansion of India’s advanced computing infrastructure.
With more than 3,000 students receiving degrees and Param Pragya being inaugurated at the Sonipat campus, the 57th convocation is set to be an important event for IIT Delhi.
The new AI-powered supercomputing facility could further strengthen the institute’s research ecosystem and support India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, advanced computing and technology-led innovation.
