President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of the state’s 51st Statehood Day, praising the Himalayan state for its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

According to the President’s message shared on social media, Sikkim stands out for its “magnificent natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and strong commitment to environmental conservation.” She described the state as a “model of sustainable development” for the entire nation.

Sikkim officially became the 22nd state of India on May 16, 1975, and this year marks the celebration of its 51st Statehood Day. The occasion was celebrated across the state with cultural events, official programmes, and messages from national leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the people of Sikkim and praised the state’s achievements in biodiversity conservation, organic farming, tourism, and ecological preservation. Modi described Sikkim as a symbol of harmony between development and nature.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted Sikkim’s success as the world’s first fully organic state and praised its efforts in redefining mountain tourism and sustainable growth.

Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also addressed the people of the state, stressing the importance of balancing modern development with environmental protection and preserving Sikkim’s cultural identity.

Over the years, Sikkim has earned national and international recognition for its organic farming policies, eco-tourism initiatives, clean environment, and conservation efforts. The state is often cited as one of India’s leading examples of environmentally conscious governance.

The celebrations this year also carried symbolic significance as they followed the completion of Sikkim’s golden jubilee statehood celebrations held in 2025. Political leaders across parties joined in extending wishes and acknowledging the state’s unique development journey.
