The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to decide on the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya at its meeting on Wednesday, September 2. The selection committee has submitted a final panel of three candidates after reviewing 5,585 applications and holding detailed discussions with 16 shortlisted candidates.
The appointment is an important administrative development for the Ram Temple because the CEO will be expected to bring greater structure and professional management to the temple’s growing operations.
Why the Ram Temple CEO Appointment Matters
The decision comes as the temple administration prepares to manage an increasingly complex organisation involving devotees, donations, infrastructure, security, facilities and day-to-day operations.
According to reports, the CEO selection process was designed as a comprehensive and technology-enabled exercise. A three-member committee headed by retired Justice Pramod Kohli, along with retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi and expert member Suresh Haware, evaluated the applicants before submitting three names to the Trust.
This approach indicates an attempt to create a more formal administrative structure around the temple’s management.
Appointment Comes After Management Concerns
The CEO appointment also assumes significance because the Trust has faced controversy surrounding alleged theft of offerings and subsequent changes within its leadership.
The creation of a full-time CEO position has been linked to efforts to strengthen administration, financial oversight and accountability. Earlier reports said the recruitment exercise followed allegations of donation-related irregularities at the temple.
From an analytical perspective, this means the first CEO will have responsibilities extending beyond routine administration. Establishing stronger internal systems for financial management, security, technology and visitor services could become one of the key priorities.
A Large-Scale Selection Process
The scale of the recruitment exercise is notable. Thousands of applications were initially received, while the final selection process narrowed the field considerably before the panel submitted three names to the Trust.
The final decision, however, rests with the Board of Trustees. Trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri has indicated that the appointment will ultimately be decided by the Trust.
The meeting is expected to begin at around 2 pm on Wednesday, with other administrative appointments also reportedly on the agenda.
What the New CEO Could Focus On
The first CEO could play a major role in developing professional systems for the temple’s future operations.
Key areas are likely to include:
- Financial transparency and oversight
- Management of donations and offerings
- Devotee facilities and crowd management
- Security and emergency preparedness
- Technology-enabled administration
- Coordination of temple-related infrastructure
- Staff management and operational planning
As visitor numbers remain substantial, efficient administration will be increasingly important.
Why This Is More Than a Personnel Decision
The appointment is significant because the Ram Temple has developed from a major construction project into a large religious and administrative institution.
A professional CEO could provide continuity between the Trust’s broader strategic decisions and the temple’s everyday functioning. The position could also help establish clearer accountability and operational procedures.
The success of the appointment will ultimately depend not simply on who receives the position, but on how effectively the new administrative structure functions.
The Ram Temple CEO will therefore face a challenging task: balancing religious traditions with modern management requirements while ensuring transparency, efficiency and smooth operations.
If the Trust approves the appointment on Wednesday, it will mark a new phase in the administration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
