Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi delivered a stinging rebuke to Shadab Khan after the all-rounder’s comments defending his 2021 T20 World Cup win over India, urging him to prove critics wrong through performance.

Shadab’s Controversial Remark

Post Pakistan’s win against Namibia in T20 World Cup 2026 Group A, Shadab Khan hit back at criticism from Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf following the team’s 61-run loss to India on February 15. Shadab highlighted that he was part of the side that beat India in 2021—a feat past legends couldn’t achieve—earning respect they allegedly mishandled.

Afridi’s Fiery Response

Afridi countered on Samaa TV, acknowledging Shadab’s point but reminding him of past support during his struggles: “We called you the team’s backbone on national TV when you weren’t performing.” He advised, “Beta perform karo… let your Super 8s games against New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka answer the critics.”

T20 World Cup Backdrop

The spat escalates tensions after Pakistan’s heavy defeat to India, prompting calls to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab. PCB reportedly warned Shadab for his remarks, emphasizing focus on tournament performance amid internal friction.
