Continuous monsoon rains have severely disrupted normal life in Telangana’s Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, where rising water levels in the Godavari River and its tributaries have cut off several villages from the rest of the district. Overflowing streams, submerged roads, and damaged transport links have prompted authorities to issue flood warnings and intensify rescue and monitoring efforts as heavy rainfall continues across northern Telangana.
The situation has become increasingly challenging in low-lying and tribal areas, where residents are facing difficulties accessing essential services due to flooded roads and overflowing bridges.
Godavari River Continues to Rise
Persistent rainfall across the Godavari basin has caused a sharp rise in river levels, with several tributaries flowing above danger levels.
Authorities reported that streams and rivulets connecting remote villages have overflowed, making road transport impossible in many locations. Temporary causeways and bridges have been submerged, isolating several habitations and restricting the movement of people, emergency vehicles, and supply trucks.
Officials are closely monitoring water levels as additional rainfall in upstream catchment areas could further increase the flow in the river system.
Several Villages Cut Off
The worst impact has been reported in interior villages of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, particularly those located near the Godavari and its tributaries.
Residents have been advised to avoid crossing flooded roads and low-level bridges, while district authorities have deployed revenue officials, police personnel, and disaster response teams to monitor vulnerable locations. In several areas, transportation has been suspended until water levels recede.
Local administrations are also ensuring that essential food supplies and emergency medical assistance remain available to affected communities.

While the rainfall has improved water availability for agriculture and reservoirs, it has simultaneously increased the risk of flooding.
Nearby districts, including Nirmal, have also experienced heavy rainfall, leading to rising reservoir levels and the opening of floodgates at major irrigation projects. Water released from these reservoirs has added to the flow in downstream rivers and streams, requiring continuous monitoring by authorities.
Officials said that although farmers welcome the abundant rainfall after earlier dry spells, prolonged downpours could damage standing crops if waterlogging continues.

The Telangana government has stepped up disaster preparedness across affected districts.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed district collectors to keep emergency teams on standby, ensure the functioning of 24×7 control rooms, and take preventive measures to avoid rain-related casualties. Departments responsible for irrigation, roads, electricity, health, and disaster management have been instructed to coordinate closely throughout the ongoing monsoon spell.
Rescue equipment, boats, and emergency personnel have been positioned in vulnerable locations to respond quickly if conditions worsen.

Officials have appealed to residents not to attempt crossing flooded roads, culverts, or bridges, even if water levels appear shallow. People have also been advised to stay informed through official weather bulletins and district administration updates.
