Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Vanni Arasu and Indian Union Muslim League representative A.M. Shahjahan were sworn in as ministers in the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday, strengthening the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office at a ceremony held in Chennai.
The induction of the two leaders is being viewed as a strategic political move ahead of key policy discussions and future electoral challenges in the state. Both VCK and IUML are important allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and have played a significant role in strengthening the coalition’s support base across Tamil Nadu.
Alliance Expansion Strengthens DMK Government
The inclusion of Vanni Arasu and Shahjahan is expected to improve representation for minority and socially marginalised communities within the state cabinet. Political analysts believe the expansion reflects the DMK government’s effort to maintain coalition unity while balancing regional and community interests.
Vanni Arasu is known for his strong involvement in social justice campaigns and grassroots mobilisation through the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. Meanwhile, A.M. Shahjahan has been an influential face of the Indian Union Muslim League in Tamil Nadu politics and has actively represented minority issues within the alliance framework.
