Delhi Police have launched an investigation into alleged chat messages that reportedly circulated among participants ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, which later turned violent in the national capital. Authorities are examining whether these messages were used to coordinate the protest and whether they contributed to the escalation of violence.
According to reports, investigators are analysing screenshots of purported conversations shared on messaging platforms. The messages allegedly discuss strategies for maintaining communication in the event of internet restrictions, using alternative messaging methods, and preparing for different scenarios during the demonstration. Police have not publicly verified the authenticity of the chats and have stated that they remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Some of the alleged messages, which have circulated widely on social media, contain references that investigators believe warrant closer examination. Authorities are working to establish whether the screenshots are genuine, identify those involved, and determine whether the conversations influenced the organisation or conduct of the protest.
The investigation follows widespread violence during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in central Delhi. Police reported incidents of stone-pelting, attacks on security personnel, damage to public property, and clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies. Several police officers sustained injuries, and multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have since been registered.
Delhi Police are also examining reports that some participants may have used Bluetooth-based messaging applications capable of functioning without mobile internet. Investigators are exploring whether such applications were employed to coordinate movement during the protest and have indicated that they may seek information from the relevant service providers as part of the inquiry.
At the same time, police have stated that they are reviewing CCTV footage, mobile videos, and digital evidence to identify individuals allegedly involved in acts of violence. Officials are also investigating whether people from outside Delhi participated in the protest and whether there was any organised planning behind the disturbances.
Meanwhile, CJP leaders and supporters have alleged that excessive force was used by police during the protest. Delhi Police have rejected several of these allegations, including claims that pellet guns were used against demonstrators, describing such reports as false and misleading.
The investigation into the alleged chats is continuing, with authorities stressing that conclusions will be based on forensic examination of digital evidence. Police have stated that legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible for organising or participating in unlawful acts during the protest, while the authenticity and context of the circulated messages remain under official scrutiny.
