India strengthened its medal campaign at the Asian Games 2026 on September 21, with shooting producing three more medals and the women’s cricket team reaching the final.
India’s shooting contingent added a silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event, with Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane combining for 1890.1 points. China won gold with a world-record score.
The individual event brought further success. Himanshu Dhillon won silver, while Rudrankksh Patil claimed bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle final. Both had earlier contributed to the team silver.
Shooting Drives India’s Medal Campaign
India had already won two silver medals on the opening day through Elavenil Valarivan in the women’s 10m air rifle team and individual events.
With the latest results, shooting has become the main source of India’s early medals at Aichi-Nagoya.
Another historic result came from Suchika Tariyal, who won India’s first-ever Asian Games MMA medal, taking bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg category.
India Women Reach Cricket Final
India also advanced to the women’s cricket final after defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs in the semifinal.
Shafali Verma scored an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls, helping India post 194/4 before Bangladesh were bowled out for 81. India will face Sri Lanka in the final.
More Medal Opportunities Ahead
India’s campaign continues across shooting, hockey, kabaddi, table tennis, boxing, badminton and other disciplines.
The women’s hockey team is also progressing through its pool matches after a 19-0 opening victory over Uzbekistan.
The early results show a strong contribution from shooting, while team sports and other individual events could further change India’s medal tally as the Games progress.
