The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore transporter allegedly murdered during his 2025 honeymoon in Cherrapunjee, has been left stunned and furious after a Shillong court granted bail to his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the case. The Meghalaya Additional District & Sessions Judge in the East Khasi Hills district allowed Sonam’s release on a ₹50,000 bond with a surety of the same amount, citing that the police did not adequately communicate the grounds of her arrest and relied on the wrong penal section at the time of booking.

In reactions from Indore, Raja’s mother Uma Raghuvanshi broke down, asking, “How did the game change?” and accusing the authorities of manipulation and injustice. She claimed the Meghalaya Police had spent nine months investigating the case thoroughly, yet she found it incomprehensible how the legal narrative shifted in a matter of weeks to justify bail for someone she calls the “mastermind” of her son’s murder. The family has now demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and vowed to challenge the bail order in the Meghalaya High Court.

Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi alleged lapses in the investigation, saying his family has not been given full access to key documents and warning that the trial could be compromised with Sonam out on bail. The family has also appealed to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for police protection, saying they live in constant fear of further threats once Sonam is released. Meanwhile, Sonam’s brother Govind Raghuvanshi told the media he is still awaiting the written order and has made it clear he will not house her at his residence.
