India delivered a sharp response to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of sponsoring cross-border terrorism and suppressing fundamental rights in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). During its intervention, India reiterated its long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir “has always been, is, and will remain” an integral and inalienable part of India.
The remarks came after Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue during the UN discussions. India rejected Islamabad’s assertions, stating that Pakistan should address its own record on terrorism and governance instead of attempting to divert international attention.
Allegations of Rights Suppression in PoK
India alleged that residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir continue to face restrictions on their democratic rights and freedoms. The Indian delegation also criticised Pakistan’s governance in the region, arguing that the international community should pay closer attention to the conditions faced by people living in PoK.
New Delhi maintained that Pakistan lacks the moral authority to comment on human rights while continuing to face allegations related to terrorism and civil liberties.
Strong Stand Against Cross-Border Terrorism
India also reiterated that Pakistan has repeatedly used cross-border terrorism as an instrument of state policy, undermining regional peace and security. The Indian representative urged Islamabad to dismantle terrorist infrastructure operating from its territory and fulfil its international obligations to prevent terrorism.
The statement reflected India’s consistent position in international forums that terrorism remains the biggest obstacle to peace and stability in South Asia.
Kashmir Position Reaffirmed
Reaffirming New Delhi’s constitutional and diplomatic stance, the Indian delegation stated that Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India. Officials stressed that the status of the Union Territory is an internal matter and rejected Pakistan’s repeated attempts to internationalise the issue.
India has consistently maintained that all outstanding issues with Pakistan should be resolved bilaterally and that any meaningful dialogue must take place in an environment free from terrorism.
Diplomatic Tensions Continue
The exchange at the UNSC is the latest in a series of diplomatic confrontations between the two neighbouring countries over terrorism and Kashmir. While Pakistan continues to raise the Kashmir issue in international forums, India has maintained its focus on cross-border terrorism and has urged the global community to hold Islamabad accountable for supporting extremist groups.
The latest remarks underscore that the India-Pakistan dispute over Kashmir and terrorism remains a key point of contention in international diplomacy. As both countries continue to present their respective positions before global institutions, the issue is expected to remain central to regional security discussions in the months ahead.
