Indian cricket is set for a major coaching reset as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prepares to conduct a comprehensive review of the men’s team’s coaching structure following a disappointing run in international cricket. The evaluation is expected to assess the performance of the support staff, coaching strategies, and overall team management as India looks to regain consistency ahead of major ICC tournaments.
The review comes after India’s underwhelming performances during the white-ball tour of England, where the team struggled to adapt to overseas conditions. The results have sparked discussions within the BCCI over the need for fresh ideas and a revised coaching approach to help the team transition successfully into its next phase.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir has acknowledged that the T20 side is currently undergoing a transition, describing it as a “reset” following the departure of several experienced players. He said the team is building a new core by giving opportunities to young cricketers and stressed that such transitions require time before consistent results can be expected.
According to reports, the BCCI’s review will not focus solely on results but will also examine player development, tactical planning, selection strategies, workload management, and the effectiveness of the coaching group. The board is expected to identify areas where improvements can be made to strengthen India’s preparations for future international assignments.
India’s coaching staff has already undergone changes in recent months, including the appointment of former all-rounder Sairaj Bahutule as the team’s spin bowling coach. The latest review is expected to determine whether further adjustments are required to ensure the coaching setup aligns with the team’s long-term objectives.
The BCCI is expected to begin its detailed assessment immediately after the conclusion of the England tour. While no decisions have been announced, the review reflects the board’s commitment to strengthening India’s coaching framework and ensuring the national team remains competitive across all formats in the coming years.
